I just finished reading a book with an interesting page set up.
Some of the top edges were not cut as usual. Those pages were stuck together.
As I read and separated pages, I thought about how people used to always have to do that on a first pass through a book. And I considered how the story was especially about how people connect to each other on those particular pages.
Then I thought about how glad I was that my books usually come with distinct pages, ready to read. Maybe it is because I don’t want to slow down, or because I don’t usually keep a knife handy when I read. Or maybe it is because I want to know the story without having to be involved with it on a practical level.
Regardless, I did feel an extra involvement in this book. What connects you to your reading?
